Privacy Policy

Paranoia stores chatbox settings locally on your device. Optional sharing, Spotify Connect, and OSC output only run when configured or used by you.

Last updated: 2026-07-05

Scope

This policy applies to Paranoia and the following configured websites and services:

  • paranoia.help

Local data

Paranoia stores app settings locally on your device. This may include:

  • Chatbox messages, enabled/disabled message state, rotation settings, and Quick Send text.
  • AFK mode settings, placeholder toggles, OSC host/port, and timing behavior.
  • Time/date formatting, theme selection, custom theme colors, and the app event log.
  • The last generated settings share code and temporary expiry timestamp.

OSC and local network

The app sends OSC messages to the configured host and port, usually local VRChat OSC such as 127.0.0.1:9000. Sent OSC data contains the final chatbox message text generated from your configured messages and placeholders.

Depending on your message setup, OSC output may include time, date, RAM values, battery percentage, device/platform labels, AFK time, and Spotify track information if enabled.

Settings sharing

Paranoia may contact paranoia.nxs.rest for optional settings upload and download. Upload only happens when you choose to upload settings. A settings upload creates a six-digit code.

Uploaded settings may include themes, custom colors, messages, message states, feature toggles, behavior settings, OSC host and port, time/date format, and Quick Send text, depending on what you select. Uploaded settings may contain user-written messages.

Anyone with a valid code may be able to import the shared settings while the code is valid or available. Do not include sensitive personal information in chatbox messages or shared settings.

Online presence

The app may contact paranoia.nxs.rest to register and unregister anonymous online presence while running. No personal platform account ID is intentionally sent for this online count.

Spotify Connect

Spotify Connect is optional. The app uses Spotify OAuth PKCE and requests user-read-currently-playing to read current playback state, track title, artist names, album name, playback progress, and track duration.

Spotify tokens are stored locally on your device and separately from normal settings. Spotify tokens and Spotify account data are not included in settings sharing. Disconnect Spotify removes local Spotify connection data.

Spotify data is used only to fill media placeholders such as song, artist, album, media, and media progress. It can appear in VRChat chatbox output only if you configure messages to include those placeholders.

Device and system data

Battery percentage, RAM usage, device manufacturer/model/platform label, device uptime, and current date/time may be used for dashboard display and placeholders. These values may be included in OSC chatbox messages if you use the corresponding placeholders.

Data not intentionally collected

Paranoia does not intentionally collect payment information, government ID, precise location, contacts, photos or videos, microphone audio, camera data, VR tracking or room geometry, or platform account profile data unless a future platform integration explicitly adds it.

User controls

You can edit or remove chatbox messages, disable placeholders or features, disable chatbox sending, clear the chatbox, disconnect Spotify, choose what settings are included in an upload, avoid uploading settings, and change OSC host/port.

Third-party services

VRChat, Meta, Spotify, and any device or platform stores you use have their own privacy policies and terms. Paranoia is not affiliated with VRChat, Meta, or Spotify.
